Senior Vice President, Strategic Excellence Initiatives

Thomas W. Seitz joined The Sherwin-Williams Company in June of 1970, as a formulator in our A. W. Steudel Technical Center in Chicago, Illinois.  Since then he has performed in a variety of positions in technical, engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and general management roles for the Company. 

In February of 2007, Tom was appointed to his current position of Senior Vice President – Strategic Excellence Initiatives.  He is responsible for driving three of our culture of excellence initiatives (Innovation, Operations and Marketing Excellence) throughout our entire domestic and global organizations.  As we acquire new businesses, Tom will be responsible for assisting the Divisions in the integration of those operations, in order to accelerate their productivity.  Tom is also responsible for leading the Company’s Green and Sustainability initiatives.

From 1999 to 2006, he was President and General Manager of the Consumer Division and from 2006 to February 2007, he was President of the Consumer Group.  In his Consumer Division/Group roles, Tom’s responsibilities included sales and marketing of architectural paint, aerosols, caulk, applicators and wood care products under a variety of private labels and controlled brands.  Customers included major retailers, independent dealers, wholesalers, and distributors in the NAFTA trading area.  The Consumer Division/Group was also responsible for architectural coatings, aerosol, resin and applicator research and development as well as the bulk of the Company’s North American manufacturing, distribution, and transportation operations including various shared services.  In addition, Tom has provided outstanding leadership to our Operational Excellence initiatives, overseeing the installation of Six Sigma and LEAN Manufacturing techniques throughout the Global Supply Chain. 

Mr. Seitz also spent six years as co-owner of a retail and commercial building materials business.  He holds an MBA degree from the University of Chicago and a BS (Engineering) from Case Institute of Technology.

Tom and his wife Nancy, have 2 grown sons and four grandchildren.
