John Chandler, Ph.D.

T-STEM Center, Texas Tech University

With a career that includes 22 years in shipbuilding and 17 years at Texas Tech Whitacre College of Engineering, Dr. Chandler contributes unique insight into both the practice and study of engineering to the activities of the Texas Tech University T-STEM Center, which he co-directs with collaborative partner, Dr. A. Dean Fontenot.  The Center participates in a coalition that develops research-driven curriculum, professional development, and other STEM resources to Texas schools, and supports a network of 65 STEM Academies and six Early College STEM High Schools participating in the Texas Education Agency / Educate Texas T-STEM Initiative.  A nationally recognized expert in rocketry education, he has published numerous articles on STEM education reform and pre-college engineering and is a frequent speaker at national STEM conferences.  John serves on several committees and advisory boards, and recently was selected by the Texas Board of Education to help write standards for an engineering capstone course.
