Janet Raloff

Science News for Kids
Senior Editor

Janet Raloff has been reporter and editor for Science News magazine for more than 35 years. Since 2007, she also has edited an online magazine for students 11 and older. That Science News for Kids has recently seen a skyrocketing in growth and its stature. Since December 2012, its administration has become her full-time responsibility.

With a background in physics, Raloff garnered undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. Her writing has won awards from a number of organizations, including the National Association of Science Writers.

She was among the first to give national visibility to such issues as electromagnetic pulse weaponry, hormone-mimicking pollutants and the pharmaceutical tainting of drinking-water sources. Raloff remains very active in the Society of Environmental Journalists, an international organization that she helped found in the late 1980s.
